Since I was planning to watch Dororon Enma-kun Meramera this season, and as I was on spring break wasting my time instead of studying, I decided to watch this OVA made in 2006-2007 by Brain Base, to learn more about Enma. There’s four episodes of 40 minutes or so each.
Well I gotta say except for the main characters it got nothing in common with Meramera curently airing. The original manga written by Go Nagai looks a lot more like Dororon Enma-kun, while the premise here is the same, this is a more “adult” take on it. Enma,Yukikohime, Kappaeru and Chapeauji are still chasing down demons, but here you’ll be dealing with prostitution, incest, and other mature subjects. Mostly fan disservice scenes I’d say . Now that I think more about it, (and after 7 episodes of Meramera) I take back what I said, Dororon Enma-kun Meramera is as much adult as Kikoushi Enma but not in the same domain. Man It’s been a while since I laughed at fanservice jokes. I should write properly about Meramera too.
So back at Kikoushi Enma, I watched it in one night, good thing I finished watching around 5am or so, the sunlight was right there, because I don’t think I would have been able to sleep… The first 2 episodes are pretty generic, but the last 2 are great. And very scary . I can’t say much about the story unless spoiling it so I’ll just leave it at that I guess. The animation is pretty decent but not breathtaking, and the soundtrack is fits perfectly the scenes. If you’re looking for an entertaining ghost story to watch this summer you’ll love this. These 4 episodes are definitely worthwhile.
