“Cross Ange is actually feminist”

I said this to someone the other day while talking about the show, and apparently a lot of fans of the show say this.
In short, it tells the muh pure waifu group of otakus to stop being stupid and stop treating women as objects. But I have to say it’s only one of the many reasons I liked the show. There’s ton of other qualities like the excellent character development (except Salia and Chris). And I wish they actually went all the way with it and dealt with how Japan treats women as a whole instead of just limiting themselves to otaku.

Like France, it may be that I’m biased about Japan because I know a bit more about it compared to other countries, but I think Japan is one of those countries who treat women the worst, at work for example. One of the reasons I’m into ReLIFE this much these days and telling everyone to read it is because it deals with that. Though at least Japan isn’t like most western countries like France, who not only treat women badly, but are hypocritical and like to criticize others about it and falsefuly say stuff like islam treats women as worthless. They say muslim women are forced to wear veils by their families and need to be “liberated”, but then expels them from school, work and society as a whole and send them back home to their families. I’m talking about mistreatment of women at work in France, but veiled women won’t even find work anyway, so technically one can’t be treated badly at work.

There’s also something you see this all the time here: people, especially women, come to France and say stuff like they’ve “emancipated” from “strict islamic rule” or whatever, calling themselves specialists and writing books about it, and getting a lot of subventions to do it. In truth a lot of them do that just so they’ll get asylum easily and just wanted to chill in France. Meanwhile if someone wants to write about the truth, they’ll leave them alone, or obstruct them. Reminds me of how some weeks ago, an imam guy who was invited on a French news channel told the journalist woman interviewing him that “France is one of the countries that follows Charia the most”, which is true. And she panicked and said stuff like “do you realize what you’re saying?” And the guy put her in her place, saying she reacts like that because she only believe what others says, instead of digging deeper herself, and doesn’t know what islamic law is actually about.

Slightly related: For years now, I often watch Arirang TV, to laugh at the new form of comedy called K-Pop boys bands’ MVs. I don’t really like K-pop but sometimes their choreography or clothes are so ridiculous I’m sure they do it on purpose. Then I feel sad and pity for them thinking of how much they’re exploited by SM entertainment and the like. Anyway. The channel also broadcast tons of documentaries about Japan’s barbarities during WW2 like comfort women and how the current Japanese government doesn’t want to apologize for it or even admit it. Apparently most school textbooks in Japan don’t mention it. I wonder if a Japanese person with Getter Guts will make an anime about this someday. Though I guess it’ll only be through a kickstarter or something as big companies won’t allow it. There’s probably a manga about it already if one looks hard enough.

Anyway Cross Ange is great and you should watch it. You should watch it yourself instead of listening to people who say it’s full of sexual fanservice & misogynistic. It isn’t any more misogynistic than the majority of anime these days anyway. Makes me think of how I recently noticed what most people probably already know: When a Japanese game company calls a female character “the heroine” in interviews, it’s literally a nice way of saying she’s here just for the main character’s lust, in some cases she won’t have a role as big as the main character or won’t even be playable.

(Just in case, I mean feminist as in the “normal” way. Not the “its ok to show your tits outside” way that some people like the femen sect use the word for these days.)

That episode was one of the funniest things I saw since 2015 started. Cross Ange is still tongue in cheek as hell and it’s really good. I never thought they’d show Salia’s reasons for switching sides in such an hilarious way. I burst out laughing at the ultra cliché drowning save and balcony scene. Was even funnier as Ange wrecks her in 3 seconds after her delusional talk. They know Salia switching sides was stupid, so they thought they might as well make it hilarious. And it worked. I don’t even care that she went full stupid anymore. Ersha’s reasons are the most acceptable, as “I wanted to save dead kids” is much less stupid than “I want to be a main character” and “I want “real” friends”. But I think since they did that with Salia, they thought they might as well go all the way down and present Ersha and Chris’s reasons in an hilarious way as well. The EMBRYO KINDERGARTEN was a really good one.

Then there’s how Salia says Embryo sama, Ersha “san” and Chris “kun”. And the ring thing too. I’m impressed they had the courage to tell the muh pure waifu otakus to get lost. And then when I thought things couldn’t get any funnier, WHEELCHAIR LOLI WHIP DRAGON DOMINATION happened.  Sylvia is such a bitch. But she’s so funny. Every scene involving her since the knifing Ange twist has been hilarious. I wonder how she’ll end. I guess Ange will save Liza if she has the chance, even though she’s part of the reason why her life took a turn for the worse, she’ll say something like it’s thanks to her she’s who she is now.

And then there was the final scene with Embryo which I don’t really know what to think about. I’m really looking forward to next week. I take back what I said about how the 2nd half may be boring. All of the reveals in the dragon world part were super predictable from the start of the show, but the show is getting really unpredictable now.

The show I’m enjoying the most this season with G Reco and Sega Girls.

I’m not a big Mizuki7buta so I wasn’t planning to watch this. The mechas looked cool but the super tryhard sexual fanservice turned me off. I still watched episode 1 to check and was pretty disappointed at how dark the show tried to be. Then the jikai started playing with Ange making fun of the show and that was pretty funny. Same with episode 2. Then episode 3 with the looney tunes like antics was hilarious. From episode 3 onwards I started to really like the show. Every episode since then has been hilarious and really interesting. I’m 100% sure the show is tongue-in-cheek.

Behind the hilarious comedy and the abundant fanservice, there’s actually a really good story and really good characters. Episodes 6 and 7 were great, and now episode 8 was really awesome. From how the show has been turning out, I knew the beach episode thing was a disguise and that episode 8 would have actual story developments, but I didn’t think it’d be this much.

Really looking forward to what will happen in the late half of the show, with the normas’s upcoming insurrection and some Paramail vs Paramail fights. I’m also really looking forward to the latest developments and what could happen in episode 9.

I’m liking everyone and I’m surprised myself I already know the character’s names. I guess my favorites are those two, Ersha and Vivian. And Salia. And Jill. And Momoka, that letter of apology she did in episode 7 was one of the funniest things I saw in a while. And the dog too. The dog is really cool. I can’t wait for him to pilot a paramail when they put their “libertas” into action. Seeing how fun and uncaring the show has been I’m sure they’ll do it. He’s not wearing goggles for nothing.

Salia and Jill are sisters
Salia or Hilda gonna die. One of them will die for sure. At least I’m 100% sure Salia will die at the end.
Rival girl fighting Ange in the OP is a dragon and she’s the princess of dragons. She’s gonna kill Tusk so Ange will want to kill her. Tusk is also a dragon.
Mana is made out of dragons
In the end they’ll say dragons aren’t invading their world on purpose and get dragged in or something, if they don’t do something soon both the normal world and dragon world will merge and gonna get destroyed
Dragon princess and Ange will find an understanding and get along and save everyone at the end
